1960 Fender Precision sunburst
Rare and collectable pre-CBS bass made in Fullerton, CA, In late 1959, a slab rosewood fretboard with clay dot inlays was introduced, as was the case with the entire Fender line. In mid-'62, this changes to a thinner rosewood veneer, and then the clay dots were replaced with pearl dots in '64.
Good condition, 6/10, Made in USA, body dated in pencil 4/60 (April), neck dated in pencil 12-60 (December), slab rosewood fingerboard, all original parts including electronics, pickguard, aluminium shield, bridge, knobs, thumb rest, both covers and tuners,, great vibe, look and sound in this holy grail, including worn original brown hardcase (which was once painted black but has been cleaned up), 3-tone sunburst where the red dye (visible under the pickguard and bridge) has faded so it looks like a 2-tone, the pots are dated 19th week of 1960, this bass was sold at Gruhns in Nashville and has lived many years in Norway, the bass side of the pickup has been rewound professionally so the solder joints at the pots have been disturbed, all 3 nail holes in the body visible, all laquered parts light up nicely under the blacklight but it has a few dings along the side of the body which have been touched up with black paint (mainly where the arm rests), the shrunken pickguard has a crack by the pickup (bass side)
