The Gibson ES-series has been at the heart of jazz, blues, rock, and beyond since its debut in the early 1950s. The "ES" stands for "Electric Spanish," marking the first true hybrid of acoustic warmth and electric versatility.
The iconic ES-175, introduced in 1949, set the stage for a whole family of semi-hollow guitars, including the legendary ES-335 (introduced in 1958), known for its "semi-hollow" body design that offered the best of both worlds—warm, resonant tone with the sustain and feedback control of a solid body.
Throughout the decades, these instruments have seen countless legendary players take them to new heights, from jazz icons like Wes Montgomery to rock gods like Chuck Berry and Eric Clapton. The Gibson ES guitars continue to define timeless tone and inspire musicians worldwide, blending classic craftsmanship with modern performance needs.
