Luthier Dieter Hopf’s family has been building classical guitar instruments in Germany for over 300 years, Dieter himself for over 50 a bit west of Frankfurt in a town named Taunusstein. His instruments are very well regarded.Origins in the 17th and 18th Centuries:
The HOPF family’s musical legacy began in the picturesque regions of Klingenthal and Markneukirchen, often referred to as the “Heart of Musical Instrument Manufacturing in Germany.” CASPAR HOPF (1655-1716), the family’s first recorded violin maker, laid the groundwork for a family history marked by technical prowess and artistic excellence. Under his leadership and that of his successor, CASPAR HOPF II, the family established themselves as one of the key players in the German musical instrument industry.
Transition into the 20th Century:
Generations of HOPF masters have passed the craft to their descendants. Their instruments, be it guitars, violins, or strings, have been celebrated worldwide for their quality and craftsmanship. Following political changes post-World War II, the family moved their base to Taunusstein-Wehen and continued to enhance their reputation as leading instrument craftsmen.
