1800s Parlour Guitar similar to Stauffer Legnani Model
Fair condition, 5,5/10, we have done a lot of research on this guitar and so far this is what we have found; this guitar is very similar to 1834-1840 the instruments made in Vienna, Austria by renowned luthier Johann Georg Stauffer (born January 26, 1778 in Vienna; died 24 January 1853 was an Austrian luthier and the most important Viennese luthier of his time), a couple of design features show when the guitar was built such as the figure 8 shaped headstock which Stauffer used from about 1822 and the machine heads arranged in a single line that he invented in 1825, domed back, but since it does not have a label, serial number or an elevated fingerboard and adjustable neck there are simply not enough things to be certain, so we will advertise this as a Stauffer influenced instrument made in the 1800´s. More specs; extensive repairwork has been done over the years including 5 long repaired cracks in the top, new upper part of the headstock, probably re-applied finish after repairs with a beautiful flower decal artwork on the back, flamed maple body, refretted with 3 different types of frets, the guitar plays and sounds great and would be a cool addition to any collection!
