Rosewood fingerboard The PF40 is a Performance series acoustic guitar model introduced by Ibanez for 1986. It was produced in South Korea.
The PF40 features a dreadnought body with a spruce top on bird's eye maple back and sides with a rosewood and maple binding. The round soundhole has a black and white and a tortoise pickguard. The mahogany neck has a 20-fret rosewood fingerboard with small white dot position markers and a blonde headstock. Components include a plastic saddle in a rosewood bridge with white bridge pins, a plastic nut, and chrome Ibanez die-cast tuning machines.
For 1989 the neck material was changed to nato wood and the materials of the back and sides were changed to flamed maple.
The PF40-12 is a 12-string version. The PF40FM is a related model with flamed maple body. The PF10 is a similar model with mahogany on back and sides. The PF20 is a similar model with maple on back and sides. The PF30 is similar model with cedar top and mahogany on back and sides.
The PF40 was discontinued after 1993.
