He was the only one of eight brothers who cut himself out of tradition and learned the craft of guitar making from Ignaz Mettal, a renowned guitar builder from Schönbach. After some journeyman years with other well-known guitar makers, Oskar Teller became independent in 1931. Oskar Teller came from an old family of violin makers. He was the only one of eight brothers who broke away from tradition and learned the craft of guitar making from Ignaz Mettal, a recognized master guitar maker from Schönbach.

After several years as a journeyman with other well-known guitar makers, Oskar Teller set up his own business in 1931.

After a short time in 1939, his work was abruptly interrupted by military service and subsequent relocation.

In 1948, he and his son Horst Teller began rebuilding his company in Bavaria. The first concert guitars after the relocation were made in a small workshop in Ohlstatt near Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

In 1955, the workshop was moved to its new home in Bubenreuth. Unfortunately, Oskar Teller died far too early, in 1961. Horst Teller learned the trade from his father. His father's early death forced him to continue running the company, which already employed several journeymen. After passing his master craftsman's exam, he was able to expand the Oskar Teller company into a globally exporting company.

In 1975, his son Harald joined the company after his apprenticeship at Hanika. His son Wolfgang also learned the trade in his father's company.

In 1980, the construction of dulcimers and zithers was added to the production program.

Horst Teller, now retired, has devoted himself exclusively to the construction of zithers in recent years and found his passion here.

He died on March 17, 2018 at the age of 86.
