Biography
Alfred Brock was the son of instrument builder Nils Nilsson in Malmö and Elisa Persson. Brock received his first training in instrument building from his father. In 1900 he came to Stockholm, where he became a repairman for the court chapel and the Museum of Music History and in 1925 a court instrument maker. Brock made violins but above all lutes. The so-called "Brock lute" gained a great reputation both in Sweden and abroad due to its good tone and beautiful appearance, and is a modernization of the old Kraft lute. Brock built a total of 892 lutes.
